Kemba

Kemba Walker Kemba Walker #15 of the Connecticut Huskies is fouled by Quincy Roberts #10 of the St. John's Red Storm on January 15, 2009 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. (Photo by Nick Laham/Getty Images) *** Local Caption *** Kemba Walker;Quincy RobertsKemba Walker is one of the best college basketball players in the nation. Period. He can take over games, while playing almost every minute. The man is cold-blooded, hitting big shot after big shot. He puts his Connecticut Huskies on his back every game, and for eight games in a row, it has worked. So far Kemba has danced his way into the Elite 8, and he is still rolling. Tonight he scored over 30 points, for the tenth time this season. He took over the game in the second half, where for five minute period, he scored 14 straight points. San Diego State could not stop him, and quickly fell behind. He proved himself as one of the best players in the country (not that there was any question). It was absolute garbage that Kemba did not win the award for Big East Player of the Year, despite leading the conference in scoring. Don't be suprised if UCONN, a team that was unranked to start the year, is cutting down the nets at the end of the tourney.

Bracket Busted

ArizonaRight now two basketball games are about to end, two more upsets in an already crazy March Madness. Wisconsin is losing to Butler, and Duke to Arizona. Both Arizona and Butler are looking very good, while the same can not be said for Duke and Wisconsin. The Badgers were leading at half, however, the started the second half shooting 1-16 from the field, allowing Butler to take the lead. Arizona just proved to have way too much off their bench, and way to much Derrick Williams. Williams is a player who will play some day at the next level, and his athletiscism is unbelieveable. Two plays tonight in particular stick out in my mind,  both of which were dunks by Williams. These dunks were part of his 32 points, a game high. These two upsets have now busted my bracket beyond repair. I had both Duke and Wisconsin in the final four, and Duke winning it all. Nice job Zach...Maybe next year.

Jimmer

Jimmer Fredette is one of the leading canidates for national player of the year this year in college basketball. Over his four seasons playing at BYU, Fredette became one of the most dangerous offensive players in the country. He filled up box scores while doing damage inside and outside of the arc. One possesion he would pull up from ten feet behind the arc. The next time down the floor he could take his man all the way to the basket. Jimmer led the nation in scoring this year, and more importantly, led his team to a conference championship, and a #3 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Despite the absence on their team's leading rebounder, BYU, led by Jimmer, made it to the sweet 16. In a hard fought battle against Florida, Jimmer lost his last game at the college level. Despite a 32 point effort by Fredette, the Gators were able to pull out the overtime victory. He has a very bright future, and he is NBA bound next season.

Marquette vs. North Carolina

Marquette is a team that less than 1% of people on espn.com picked to be in the sweet 16, and even less picked them to beat North Carolina. The Golden Eagles have already reached the sweet 16, their first time since 2003. Tomorrow night they will go up against the heavily favored Tar Heels of North Carolina. At first glance this game appears to be one that Marquette can not win, however, when you take a closer look at the matchup, Marquette could have a chance to pull off the upset. They are lead by Darius Johnson-Odom, along with Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder. These three players will create matchup problems for the Tar-Heels, on both ends of the court. This game could turn into a track meet, because both teams love to get up and down the court. UNC definitely has the advantage, but Marquette is a tough team with lots of heart.

Wisconsin Badgers Roll On

Wisconsin teamates Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor
Saturday night the Badgers had a tough matchup with the Kansas State Wildcats. It took a whole team effort to overcome the 38 point performance by Kansas State's Jacob Pullen. Jon Leuer led the Badger's scoring attack with 19 points. Jordan Taylor pitched in with 12, Gasser and Brusewitz poured in 11 each. The game was close, and very physical on both ends of the court. Leuer sustained an injury to the head, which required a few stitches. This did not stop the Badger's from rallying behind him, bloody head and all, and pull out a victory in the tournament. This week the Badgers will play the Butler Bulldogs, fresh off of their upset over Pittsburgh. This game took everything that Butler had to offer, and a few mistakes by Pitt, in order to pull out the victory. Who will win? The red hot Wisconsin Badgers? Or the underdog fresh of an upset, the Butler Bulldogs?

Upsets

The first weekend of March Madness is done, and there were a few big upsets, busting thousands of brackets. First round upsets of #12 Richmond and #13 Morehead State over Vanderbilt and Louisville showed us why we call this time of the year March Madness. Days one and two also saw several more games decided by a few points or less. Butler beat Old Dominion, and then upset #1 ranked Pittsburgh. Sunday night, another big upset took place, Florida State over Notre Dame. On ESPN.com and Yahoo.com there are already no more perfect brackets.

March Madness Is Here!

March is the best month out of the year. Spring is coming, snow is melting, girl scout cookies, shamrock shakes, and most importantly March Madness. The NCAA tournament is by far the greatest sporting event of the year, with its only competition being the Super Bowl. What makes the tournament so much better than anything else? Sixty-four games. Thats sixty-three more than the Super Bowl.

March Madness could not have came at a better time either. The country's attention has been focused on budget repair, collective bargaining, and an NFL lockout. Enough is enough, it is time to take a break from all of this banter. At the end of the day Republicans won't agree with Democrats, and the NFL Players won't agree with their owners, however, there is one thing that eveyone can agree on, March Madness is awesome. Even thousands of non-basketball fans fill out their brackets and watch the games with their full attention, hoping that their bracket is "the one". So let us all take a break from our jobs, school, homework, politics, and arguments, hang out with family and friends, and watch some basketball.
